Health is a treasure that cannot be measured by any material means. However, access to accurate and reliable health information for the general public in Indonesia and ASEAN countries remains challenging. This is what prompted Hello Health Group (HHG) to create a health information website.
Hello Health Group chose to collaborate with Tongkolspace to build a health website accessible to people in various ASEAN countries and Hong Kong in their respective local languages. This website does not merely provide information but offers in-depth and professional insights into health. The HHG website in Indonesia is named Hello Sehat.
Hello Health Group aims to be a trusted source of health information with a variety of articles covering topics ranging from health tips, healthy lifestyles, to information about diseases and medications. Using WordPress as the CMS (Content Management System) platform, we have grown rapidly to 8 countries in just 3 years with excellent traffic that continues to increase.
HHG’s content strategy focuses on providing detailed and professional articles. All information on the website has been validated by expert doctors according to the topic discussed. As a result, many visitors are satisfied and keep coming back for accurate health information.
In addition to articles, Hello Sehat’s standout feature is its online health check tools. These tools are designed by professional medical staff from the HHG team. The available tools include:
- BMI Calculator (Body Mass Index)
- Calorie Needs
- Child Growth Chart
- Skin Condition Screening
- Diabetes Management Screening
- Asthma Symptom Test
- and 20 other tools
Currently, HHG has a website in 8 languages and millions of page views each month. Despite high traffic, the monthly website costs for HHG can be more cost-effective. This is largely due to Tongkolspace’s role in website development.
To continue expanding and growing, HHG faces several challenges. The most urgent are server service costs and code scalability.
Before collaborating with Tongkolspace, HHG chose WordPress SAAS services to grow quickly without worrying about technical aspects. However, as traffic grew, the costs became unsustainable. The SAAS service model, which bases costs on monthly page views, led to escalating expenses. Tongkolspace provided a solution by redesigning HHG’s architecture using an IAAS platform, resulting in over 50% savings on server costs.
In addition to managing servers, our innovations also addressed issues with code that did not meet WordPress standards. In this project, Tongkolspace optimized WordPress code on HHG’s website to enhance scalability. Thanks to the implementation of scalable code, website access speed can be faster. Even if modifications are made in the future, development will not slow down because there is no need to add many lines of code.
With coding as the core capability of the Tongkolspace team, some of the points we addressed include:
- Replacing slow plugins with custom WordPress code
- Optimizing WordPress SQL queries
- Implementing a caching system.
Initially, HHG used plugins to develop its tools. However, due to plugin limitations, this became inefficient. Custom development was needed for tools that were 100% tailored to HHG’s needs. Our role in translating the formulas provided by experts into native WordPress code successfully created tools that are easy for users to use. With reduced plugin dependencies, website loading speed improved.
Regarding speed, Tongkolspace employs a multi-level caching mechanism using page-level caching and transient caching. This optimization enables frequently accessed pages to load quickly upon subsequent visits, maximizing the number of visitors to the website.
We also modified the website’s core to make it multilingual-ready. This is crucial since HHG operates websites in multiple countries, each providing information in their respective local languages. In fact, one region can have more than one language, such as English and the local language.
This partnership demonstrates Tongkolspace’s ability to help startups continue to grow and expand. The HHG website is proof that we can build websites with complex features, high update frequencies, and high visitor counts while prioritizing website access speed, server stability, and high-quality, easily modifiable code.
